Red Dot Awareness
Swach waste-pickers handle about 20 metric tonnes of household sanitary waste every day. The Red Dot awareness program targets the safe disposal of dirty pads and diapers.
This initiative sensitizes participants to the problems faced by waste-pickers who perforce need to handle this waste as part of their everyday work. Unwrapped sanitary waste exposes them to multiple deadly pathogens, including staphylococcus, hepatitis, E Coli and salmonella. It also undermines the dignity of labour and of environmental health in urban areas. To make a difference, Swach provides the public with safe alternatives for sanitary disposal.
