Green School Programme

Environmental issues, waste management, transportation, civic issues… how many children today are aware of these? Confined within strict schedules of classes, structured activities and tuitions, children today are far removed from these realities that affect their day to day life. To address this very gap, SWaCH, Parisar (www.parisar.org) and CEE ( http://www.ceeindia.org/) have launched the Green School Programme (GSP).

The GSP aims to :

Enhance school children’s perspectives on environment, sustainability and related issues.
Understand and bridge the gaps in their knowledge and understanding through theme-based modules/sessions.
Help students and teachers carry out action-based projects leading to environment conservation.
Help schools set up and implement best practices of solid and e-waste management.
Help the school reach out to parents in order to make them partners in the process of environmental conservation – and particularly, in waste management.

Through the medium of hands on activities the GSP covers topics like water, waste, energy, biodiversity, heritage and culture and traffic and transportation. To ensure the sustainability of the programme, parents and teachers too will be part of the activities. The programme is offered at a fee. Schools have the option of selecting just one level at Rs. 1500 or all three levels at Rs. 20,000. The objective of this programme is to ensure maximum reach to all schools. This programme has therefore been thrown open to sponsorship where individuals or corporate can sponsor this programme in Municipality run schools or schools that cannot afford the same.
